The Moscow Mule was invented in 1941 in New York City — the product of a clever marketing alliance. John G. Martin (who had excess Smirnoff vodka), Jack Morgan (who couldn't sell his ginger beer), and a woman with too many copper mugs joined forces. The iconic copper mug became the drink's signature, and the Moscow Mule is credited with kickstarting America's vodka craze.

  3. Add 15 ml (0.5 oz) of freshly squeezed lime juice.

  5. Stir briefly to combine — just two or three gentle turns.
  6. Garnish with a lime wheel and a sprig of fresh mint.
  7. Serve immediately.
