The Daiquiri takes its name from a beach and iron mine near Santiago de Cuba, where American mining engineer Jennings Cox is said to have first mixed rum, lime, and sugar around 1898. The drink soon traveled to Havana, where it became the signature cocktail of the legendary El Floridita bar — famously patronized by Ernest Hemingway. Despite being buried under decades of frozen, artificially flavored imitations, the classic Daiquiri remains one of the most respected cocktails among professional bartenders: a perfect test of balance between spirit, citrus, and sweetness.

- Add 60 ml (2 oz) of white rum, 25 ml (0.75 oz) of freshly squeezed lime juice, and 15 ml (0.5 oz) of simple syrup to a cocktail shaker.
- Fill the shaker with ice cubes.
- Shake vigorously for 10–15 seconds until the shaker is frosty on the outside.
- Double strain through both the Hawthorne strainer and a fine mesh strainer into a pre-chilled coupe glass. This removes ice shards and lime pulp for a silky texture.
- Garnish with a lime wheel on the rim or a lime twist.
- Serve immediately — this drink does not wait.
